Roanoke Vineyards to Open on Love Lane, Creative Director Heads to Stony Brook Southampton

New tasting room at former Model Nails space on iconic Mattituck street getting prepped for spring opening.

It's the provincial picture of heaven, right? Eat at the local café, hit the local cheesemonger and stop at the tasting room for a quick sip of the local wine. That's what's headed for Mattituck's Love Lane.

Creative Director Scott Sandell told Patch on Tuesday that the winery will open its second tasting room at 165 Love Lane, a storefront vacated in November when Model Nails closed up shop.

in Jamesport in December.

Sandell did not say when the new tasting room will open, but will help the winery get more of its wine in local hands.

"We thought having a second location that was slightly more convenient than the tasting room would make it easier for people to get Roanoke Wines — we don't wholesale to wine shops, so the wines have only been available in the tasting room, or by mail order," Sandell said.

That also means Roanoke's current tasting room and home base in Riverhead could become a member-only club for patrons of Roanoke's wine club, he said.

As for Sandell, a visual artist whose work goes beyond the wine labels he creates for Roanoke, he'll likely be uninvolved in the Love Lane opening. Sandell on April 1 will start his new job as head of a new visual arts program at , and one of his first projects will be to launch a summer workshop for artists at the college, he said.

"We will be throwing open the doors to our Almost Beachfront Digital Print Studio on 7/11, and the print shop will feature four wide-body printers that will be used in our classes in New Printmaking, and 21st Century Portraiture; from Facebook to Fabulous. I've also booked Dan DeSimone, the Lessing Rosenwald curator of rare and illustrated books from the Library of Congress to teach a class in artists' books," he said.

Another project includes creating prints with giant four feet by eight feet woodblocks that take a steamroller to operate.

So great that space is being filled...now if only someone could fill the empty space in the Octagon building.

Allison Staron said on Facebook: "There's limited parking on/around Love Lave as it is; Its hard enough to try n get to the post office, or the bank on the weekend. Aren't there enough tasting rooms around here? I miss the old Love Lane, quaint and quiet."

There are TWO sizable parking lots, one behind the post office and one behind the cheese shop.

Jack Tomlin said on Facebook: "I'd have to respectfully disagree with you, Allison. As someone on the Patch site noted "There are TWO sizable parking lots, one behind the post office and one behind the cheese shop." Also, I believe, "quaint and quiet" is something every business owner should fear like the plague - unless they're in the library business. On another note, more competition means better quality for consumers. Don't hate, celebrate!"

Do you know what "provincial" means?
Merrick7 March 3, 2012 at 10:52 pm
Merriam-Webster Dictionary Defines "Provincial" in the adjective form as used here as: a : limited in outlook : narrow
b : lacking the polish of urban society : unsophisticated 3 : of or relating to a decorative style (as in furniture) marked by simplicity, informality, and relative plainness; especially : french provincial In other words, the usage of the word is completely incorrect based on the rest of the author's article.

And, now that we know how easy it is to thwart the law, we must wonder...how many potentialRead More terrorists are residing here, thanks to breaks in our security system? Maybe the Mexico/U.S. border shouldn't be our top priority.

even worse?...When I had the publisher of North Fork Magazine contact me regarding the blatantRead More violation, what were his comments?? To add further insult to injury, he said & I quote: "I thought I was doing Greenport a favor...all of the businesses there are suffering...this paper doesn't make any money...sure I have advertisers but they don't pay their invoices...maybe if the cover of the magazine brings business to Greenport, maybe those merchants will pay their bill.."

Better yet, rather than pay mag's invoice. send $$$ to Artist.
Scotty June 16, 2013 at 08:41 pm
And he really still doesn't see that he's stealing from the artist to 'bring business to Greenport'?Read More The effrontery of his comment leaves me aghast. Of ALL people who should grasp the concept of plagiarism and copyright laws, it should be a newspaper editor/publisher! Cropping out her signature proves they knew full well that they were stealing her work. I'd suggest the artist contact a copyright attorney pronto. I'm always astonished when something like this occurs when a simple phone call to the artist might have been successful in allowing him to use her work WITH her signature intact instead of doing something so underhanded.

I've just tried to do a Google search for you and from what I've found you need to either check withRead More your local library to see if they have one they might lend you--OR--try Audio/Visual online companies. There are some which DO rent projectors for days or weekends. I have one but just checked with my husband and at the very least it needs a replacement bulb(which are fairly expensive)--hasn't been looked at in years so there's no way I could guarantee it would work. You've definitely given me an idea, though--I'll get mine in shape at some point and rent it to folks for a nominal sum. I'm sure there are many others who have old film they'd enjoy viewing for family reunions as would my own family. Good luck. If you don't succeed for next weekend, you have other options. At the very least you might be able to have the film transposed to a DVD and distributed to your family members although that's costly too, depending on how many copies you need. Just a thought, but you could add the old footage in with some taken AT the reunion as a nice follow-up gift for the attendees?
