Do You Think Aquebogue Could Use an Afterhours Location?

Watering holes surround Aquebogue, from Cliff's Elbow Room to the east and downtown Riverhead to the west. What would inject a little life into downtown Aquebogue?

These days, Aquebogue's "main strip" is hard to define.

Its former post office — a classic part of a town's main strip — is vacant on the corner of Church Lane and Route 25 (the new post office is located in a plaza on Linda Avenue near Route 105). Sure, the Old Steeple Church still stands proudly next to a gas station and the Modern Snack Bar seasonal restaurant. Comtesse Therese Bistro features plates of local food and tastes of local wine, and the Meeting House Deli is still abuzz with those seeking lunch and coffee during the day.

But — not to take away from the Meeting House Creek Inn to the south of the main drag — there is nowhere to really hang out afterhours in downtown Aquebogue. The building across the street from Comtesse Therese used to house Fauna, a bar and restaurant that opened in the early 2000s. Before that, it was Hans' Gast Haus — a German restaurant and place known for good beer. And before that, it was an Italian place called Little Joe's.
