Open for Business: Lieb Goes Rural at New Oregon Road Tasting Room

Manager describes first week at rustic-chic tasting room as 'excellent.'

Lieb Cellars is a familiar stop in Long Island Wine Country for those traveling east or west on Route 48 in Mattituck at the intersection of Cox Neck Road.

And now those looking to venture off the main drag have another venue to taste the award-winning wines of Lieb — at what the winery is promoting as a “rustic-chic” tasting room, which opened at 13050 Oregon Road on Oct. 1.

Lieb marketing manager Logan Kingston said that the past week and the weekend in between has been excellent at the new location showcasing some of the North Fork’s most rural vistas.

“We had quite a few groups come in this weekend at the Oregon location and the Mattituck tasting room is still experiencing an influx,” she said.

Originally proposed over the summer of 2011, Lieb Cellars Oregon Road is a converted agricultural storage building over 5,500 square feet in size sitting amongst 62 acres of wines. Lieb Cellars Mattituck, which features a tasting room of modern industrial décor, opened its doors in May 2001 and shares its location with Premium Wine Group, a custom crush facility that produces wines for over 70 vineyards.

Both tasting rooms, open every day from noon until 7 p.m., offer the full menu of Lieb Wines and offer tastes of local season foods. With the exception of only a limited number of private parties, busses and limousines are not allowed at the new rural Lieb location — most will be allowed only at the Cox Neck location.

“We’ve had only one party bus so far – we’re keeping those very exclusive on Oregon Road,” Kingston said. "We're planning maybe four per year for our wine club members."
