Townsend Manor loses out on 'three-peat' at annual clam chowder cook-off.

Sunday at Greenport Maritime Festival means one thing: Chowder contest.

This year, Salt, a new Shelter Island restaurant that opened this summer in the Island Boatyard complex, won best in show (judged by chefs) with their creamy yet tangy sweet corn and clams New England clam chowder. A recipe from the Blue Canoe, the new place at the former Chowder Pot location in Greenport, received the people's choice award.

Townsend Manor, who won best in show for the past two years, came in second, and First and South came in third in the people's choice categories; the Blue Canoe and Noah's rounded out best in show.

The chowder contest is sponsored by Albertson Realty.

Very unique selection of chowders this year - especially the corn chowder topped with pulled pork from Hotel Indigo. Great job everyone!
