New Goldberg's Famous Bagels Sign Goes Up in Mattituck

Who's excited about Goldberg's Famous Bagels in Mattituck?

Springtime will bring not only sunny skies but the opening of a local favorite in Mattituck.

One of the South Fork's most beloved tastes will be making an appearance on the North Fork come spring, as Goldberg's Famous Bagels opens in the Mattituck shopping plaza. Workers were busy Wednesday erecting the new sign for the bagel shop.

The store will move into the space that formerly housed the North Fork Bagel Company, which closed this year.

The location is the second planned for the area; a second Goldberg's Famous Bagels will open in the revitalized former Woolworth building on East Main Street in Riverhead, also in the spring.

Goldberg's Famous deli has been in business since 1928 and came to the East End of Long Island over ten years ago, with locations in Southampton and East Hampton.

The family business, well-known for its bagels, also offers a full-service deli serving Boar's Head meat and cheese, and is a catering service, too.

Owner Mark Goldberg said he felt the time was right to bring the business to Mattituck. "The North Fork needed Goldberg's Famous Bagels," he said. "It's time the North Fork catches up to the Hamptons."

He added that he's excited about opening in Riverhead, too. "I like Riverhead, the new structure of everything. I think it will be really nice."

Customers can expect not only the legendary bagels, but also, the store's "famous flagels," as well as "great egg sandwiches," corned beef, pastrami, hot soups and chili, Goldberg said.
