New Locale for Village Cooperative, Consignment Gallery

It's a fresh start for a decades-old business in Greenport.

A longtime gallery has moved down the street -- to 471 Main Street -- but continues a 30 year legacy of bringing vintage furniture, fine art and decor to   Greenport.

Gallery 429, on Main Street in the village, is a cooperative consignment gallery specializing in fine art, antiques, collectibles and vintage clothing.

Owner Barbara Bartoloni opened her new doors two weeks ago with inventory that features a greater focus on vintage furniture, art and decor.

Bartoloni, who lives in Bridgehampton, came to Greenport 30 years ago because, "Everyone said Greenport was changing, it was looking good. Everybody was willing to give it a try - so that's what we did. We thought it was a good starting pint for our business."

Bartoloni and her husband Gary sold their original building two weeks ago, and decided to open at their new space with a fresh direction aimed mainly at vintage goods.

"We're focusing on a 50s and 60s look," Bartoloni said. "We're getting away from antiques. Our market is focused more designers, decorators, and a younger buying market -- people in their 20s and 30s."

But despite the new address, Bartolini said her heart -- and business -- remain in the village. "I love Greenport," she said. "I always did. It's got a bohemian feel to it. It's a little un-Hamptons. There are a lot of characters here, and, after 30 years, you pretty much know everyone. I like that."
