The Inn at the Blue, an iconic place for visitors to stay and locals to party in East Marion, is set to open come springtime under new ownership.
Montauk hotelier Sam Glass, owner of the Ocean Resort Inn on 95 South Emerson Avenue in Montauk, bought the Inn at the Blue for $2.02 million from Garden City-based Sperry Associates Federal Credit Union, according to www.costar.com, an online commercial real estate information company. Former owner Bruce Garritano closed the inn, located at 7850 Route 25 in East Marion, two years ago.
Ginny Stevens, general manager of the Ocean Resort Inn since 1998 and consultant to Glass in the East Marion venture, said Wednesday morning that Glass’s representatives closed on the property about two weeks ago.
“I think the word just got out that we’re here, and people are excited,” she said, as a few of her Montauk resort employees worked to clean up the inn’s famous Victorian-era home Wednesday morning.
The Inn at the Blue features nine rooms located in the original historic home, two quaint cottages and 20 traditional roadside-style rooms. A restaurant and pub and an outdoor swimming pool are also on premises. Before the inn closed it was an active spot for outdoor parties featuring live music from local bands.
Glass was not available for comment at press time, but Stevens said her boss has been looking at the property for some time.
“I’ve been helping him research this for about two years since it went into foreclosure,” she said. “It is a beautiful property. For me, it’s the north-south connection — the best of both worlds. We’ve got the beaches on the south side and the vineyards and fields of lavender on the North Fork. I love it. I wish I could be like Solomon — split me in half and I’ll work at both places.”
Stevens added that all of the rooms at the inn are currently being gutted and refurbished, and that the hotel’s name — which originally was The Blue Dolphin — will be changed from The Inn at the Blue to, simply, The Blue Inn.
