Memorial Day Weekend Spotlight: Osprey's Dominion's Wind-Produced Wine to Help Wounded Warriors

Money from sales of Ascent — wine made with wind power — will go to the Wounded Warrior charity.

The owners of have wanted to produce a wine made completely with wind power — now they have it and would like to put it to good use.

Ascent is the name of the wine — the first made by power generated by the Peconic winery's installed during by Jamie Minnick and his crew at of Mattituck. The turbine will be dedicated at 2 p.m. with a short ceremony and live music, and 10 percent of all sales of Ascent will be donated to the fund.

Osprey’s Dominion will save approximately $8,500 in electricity annually, and the turbine has an expected lifetime of over 20 years. Their windmill, standing at 120 feet, is the second largest on Long Island.

Very cool to see this at a vineyard. Unfortunately someone flew their kite into it. I doubt their was damage but you could see string hanging from blades as we left. Not very bright on the part of wine drinking public.
