Mattituck Deli Getting Facelift; Re-Opening in May

Antique Catering and Deli, on Main Road in Mattituck, will be changing things up and re-opening soon.

The owner of a local deli had a few options when she decided it was time for a change.

"I could close up and go bankrupt. I could sell it. Or I could close up for a little bit, change things up, and re-open," said Danielle Grzegorczyk, owner of .

So what will she be doing?

"We're not going to be a plain Jane deli anymore," she said. "We need to do something different - make it prettier looking, find our own niche. You need a niche nowadays. I'm tired of the same old thing."

Grzegorczyk bought her partners out about two-and-a-half years ago, and said that last year really hurt business. Between the long winter and a summer cut short by Tropical Storm Irene, she said the deli - located in the same plaza as , across from Mattituck Plaza - basically kept its door open just to pay its staff.

She recently put out an ad looking for a new partner, or someone to buy the place outright. Weighing her options currently on the table, she's leaning heavily toward working with one partner to give the deli - which will have a new name soon, though that's to be announced - a new look and feel.

But that doesn't mean everything will be kicked to the curb.

"We'll keep the oldies but goodies," she said. "We had a board of 12 specials and we'll keep some of those. We'll keep doing breakfast - that's very important to the locals and seniors. Lunch is where the difference is going to be."

The deli - which seats 16 - is currently under renovation, but should open in May, Grzegorczyk said.

"If we don't open back up soon, we'll be losing money as we get into the busy season," she said. "Thank God I have another full-time job. Otherwise, forget it."
