Mattituck 7-Eleven Could Open Within the Week

Southold Town Planning Board grants conditional site plan approval to the franchise owner of the Mattituck 7-Eleven.

With conditional site plan approval granted by members of the Southold Town Planning Board at the board’s monthly public meeting Monday night, the could open its doors as early as this week, said Patricia Moore, attorney for the franchise owner of the much-contested convenience store.

The construction of the store has been complete for weeks in the removal of a utility pole on the northeast corner of the intersection used by Verizon and Cablevision. The state Department of Transportation cannot complete the work until the spring — a fact that was only recently made known to Moore and 7-Eleven franchise owner Tony Cocheo, they said.

Cocheo thought he would have to l But under this new conditional approval, Cocheo said he is confident that the Mattituck 7-Eleven will be open before Thanksgiving if not sooner.

Work that needs to be completed before the Planning Board issues a certificate of occupancy to the store includes repainting of striping in the parking lot, the removal of a fallen tree limb on the property and lighting up the curbside 7-Eleven sign, said Moore.

Southold resident Casandre Wilcox, one of the trained employees hired to work at Mattituck 7-Eleven, was present at the hearing.

“I’m excited,” she said. “We’ve been waiting a long time.”

Southold Town Planning Director Heather Lanza said that Department of Transportation representatives have been very helpful in specifying scheduling to finish the work at the 7-Eleven site.
