In Season: Barb's Veggies In Peconic Offers Up Produce

Barb's Veggies in Peconic offers a little bit of everything -- the first peaches will be available next week.

Barb's Veggies, located on Route 25 in Peconic, opened for the season on Memorial Day weekend, and has plenty of in-season produce for the scores of repeat customers who love the farmstand.

Owners Barbara and Joe Pelis said asparagus, lettuce, spinach and arugula are in season right now.

The farmers have been growing for ten yen years, Joe said. Regular customers return every year for favorites including peaches, melons, corn and strawberries.

"It's a little bit of everything," Barb said.

Joe, who was a service manager at a car repair business in Southampton for 35 years, said when he began farming, he was returning to his roots; he grew up on a farm in Calverton.

Good news for those hankering for peach cobbler: The first peaches will be in next week.
