Hearing Set for New Quiogue Hospice Facility, to Serve Entire East End

The Southampton Planning Board has moved the East End Hospice's project to build an 8-bed inpatient facility in Quiogue forward at its last meeting in December.

According to a report on 27east, the planning board rendered the non-profit's site plan application complete and set a public hearing for Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. at Southampton Town Hall.

If approved, the plan will result in a new $10 million facility that will feature 8 private rooms large enough to accommodate overnight guests, private bathrooms and walkout terraces that will overlook Aspatuck Creek.

The facility, which is designed by architect Roger Ferris, will also house a family room with fireplace; a family bathroom with shower; a reflection room for family members; and an enclosed sun porch and a courtyard with garden. Patients will also have access to a spa room that will incorporate a state-of-the art ultrasonic bath that East End Hospice says has healing benefits.

The facility, which the 20-year-old East End Hospice says is needed, will provide 24-hour acute care and house patients from its coverage area of Eastern Suffolk from East Hampton to Southampton and Westhampton and Shelter Island to Riverhead.

To fund the project, the hospice kicked off a fundraising effort in June 2011. At that time, the organization had raised nearly $4 million. And in September 2012, a gala event was held to raise additional funds. See photos from that event here.
