Empty In Southold: JD Steakhouse

A new business could be opening this summer at the location.

Although a sign on the door states that JD Steakhouse on Route 25 in Southold is closed temporarily due to family illness, the business shut its doors permanently last year -- and a new owner could be taking over soon.

"We have a lot of interest," said realtor Thomas McCarthy of Thomas J. McCarthy Real Estate in Southold. "We look forward to hopefully a new owner this season."

The restaurant, which was the longtime Sea Shell before JD Steakhouse opened in 2010 was put on the market last fall for $1.2 million.

The building measures 2,200 square feet and holds outdoor seating space, too. McCarthy said in October that health issues of the family operating JDs led to its closure.

Cimino's Restuarant, an Italian joint, also operated in the space between its incarnations as steakhouse and seafood restaurants.
