Shock Kosher Goods Now Under Supervision of Synagogue

Shock Ice Cream, which has always served kosher goods, is now under the supervision of the Hamptons Synagogue.

Elyse Richman, owner of Shock, and the synagogue recently came to an agreement in which the synagogue will be inspecting all of the goods at Shock, including bakery items, like cupcakes that can be purchased as a single snack or ordered for parties.

Hampton Coffee's New Cafe Promises an 'Experience'

Hampton Coffee Company, which has locations in Water Mill and Westhampton Beach, quietly opened its third cafe Saturday, on the highly trafficked County Road 39A corridor in Southampton.

While the new cafe has the same beans, coffee, baked goods and sandwiches as the other stores, it was designed to offer much more, with coffee tastings and classes on brewing using both common methods and techniques that only the most ardent coffee enthusiasts practice.

Owner Jason Belkin said Tuesday that Hampton Coffee Experience Store is modeled after the coffee shops found in Brooklyn, which in turn are fashioned after Portland cafes. It has a West Coast feel, he said, and is the only cafe of its kind in Suffolk County.

New Food Market, With a Touch of Italy, Opens in Peconic

A taste of Italy is coming to the North Fork.

Sarah and Anthony Nappa, who own the Winemaker Studio on Peconic Lane, have opened a new food market in the adjoining space -- the site where Taste of the North Fork was formerly located.

So far, the new business, which has been operating since February, has only had a "soft" opening, but a Grand Opening is planned for Memorial Day weekend.

Gone Local Goes Looking For a New Space

Memorial Day weekend has arrived, but instead of looking forward to what is the busiest time of year for merchants on the South Fork, one business owner is scrambling to stay open.

Gone Local, an eclectic store on Main Street in Amagansett, has to vacate its space of 7 years by June 13, according to Susan Seitz-Kulick, the owner. She said the landlord, Pat Trunzo, gave her one month's notice — one week ago Monday — the time legally required as she only had a month to month lease.
