Shark Attack Sounds Yields $8K Donation to Montauk Playhouse

The Montauk Playhouse Community Center received a donation of $8,000 as part of the Shark Attack Sounds party last month.

The Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina donated the money, twice as much as much as originally promised to the organization, the yacht club said in a statement.

“Approximately $3,500 was originally committed to the Montauk Playhouse, as a result of the annual Shark Attack Sounds party held July 5, 2013,” Lloyd Van Horn, the general manager, said. “We decided that we were able to double the donation amount in order to benefit the Montauk community further.”

New Farm Stand Opens In Hampton Bays

A new farm stand has popped up in Hampton Bays.

The stand, two week new, is owned by Hampton Nursery on Montauk Highway and offers fresh goods from local farmers, including corn, onions, and potatoes.

Hampton Nursery told Patch that it was a natural progression to open the stand - especially since the owner's brother-in-law is in the restaurant business and was able to help open the stand.

New Blue Duck Bakery Opens In Greenport This Week

The newest Blue Duck Bakery location will open this week in Greenport on Front Street — with a public celebration and a visit from the Blue Duck himself.

According to Nancy Kouris, who owns the Blue Duck Bakery locations with her husband Keith, the grand opening of the fourth location, at 130 Front Street in Greenport, will take place from Thursday through Sunday.

Stony Brook's Calverton Incubator Welcomes New Tech Company

A Riverhead company that has its roots in Stony Brook University is expanding to become the newest addition at Stony Brook's Calverton business incubator, the university announced Wednesday.

That company, buncee, employs Stony Brook graduates, actively participates with the university's career center, and has turned to the entrepreneur-in-residence of the university's Center of Excellence for Wireless and Information Technology for consulting and other support services. The company provides creative digital content to businesses that don't have the technological savvy to develop their own, emphasizing "interactive digital canvas and easy-to-use tools that give users a whole new way of creating and sharing customized online and mobile content," the university said.
