Clovis Point 2007 Chardonnay: Ripe is the Word

Juicy flavors of fresh pineapple abound in this steel-fermented chardonnay.

Ripe's an interesting word. When it comes to fruit, it's marked by juiciness, sweetness, and depth. In cheese, well, there's a stinky element to it. But there's a constant there, the idea of readiness, as if the time to enjoy something is the moment that's in your grasp.

The wine: 2007 Chardonnay, a pale, straw colored wine that's fermented in stainless steel and contains almost 2 percent of juice from the aromatic Gewurztraminer grape.

Aromas (Nose): Dried apricot scents up front, with hints of lemon peel and loads of fresh pineapple. Just a slight hint of minerality, but pineapple is the star.

Taste (Palate): Very ripe pineapple up front, with a thick texture that creates the sensation of sweetness, oxidized flavors of red apple as well, some apricot, and petrol hints of candle wax on  the finish. It's got light acidity, but not too much, just enough to stand up to a creamy dish.

Food pairing: Since Peconic Bay Scallops season just kicked off, why not try .
