Celebrate Mother's Day on the North Fork

You don't have to travel far from home to give mom a special Mother's Day treat.

Some mothers enjoy being pampered by their families on Mother’s Day and spending as much time with loved ones as possible. Other mothers enjoy a little “me” time on their day. Here are some local ideas to make this Mother’s Day special this coming Sunday.

1. Wineries

The North Fork wineries have a variety of events going on this weekend to honor moms. in Southold will offer a special demonstration on flower arranging on Sunday and a special sparkling wine and desert pairing all weekend long. Moms will a special tasting and enjoy chocolate for free at in Jamesport.

2. Brunch or Dinner Out

One of the best gifts for mom is taking her out to eat so no one has to cook or clean up. Restaurants across the North Fork will be open on this special day and many are serving dinner all day long. is Mattituck will be serving dinner from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mother’s Day. If you want to take your mom out for a great view, in Greenport is waterside dining at its finest. If your mother remembers Fishermen’s Restaurant, bring her to the totally renovated at its new location in Cutchogue. You won’t recognize the place. The in Jamesport will serve dinner starting at 12 p.m. on Mother’s Day. A little further west in Wading River, Blackwell’s Restaurant will hold a Mother’s Day Brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will serve dinner all day.

3. Spa Day

If your mom is looking for a little “me” time, manicures and pedicures are a great gift idea. in Mattituck will actually be open this Sunday. in Greenport is open six days a week and offers a variety of manicures and pedicures. Suki's also has a boutique, which carries a variety of cosmetics and jewelry. In East Marion, in East Marion runs the gamut of spa services in a luxury setting. At the end of mom's treatment, she may just decide to book a room.

4. Jewelry

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but moms like a whole variety of jewels. Pandora bracelets are a popular gift and can be purchased at in Southold. For a more eclectic mom, in Greenport has many one-of- a- kind necklaces, bracelets and earrings.

5. Flowers or Plants 

If your mom has a green thumb, or would like to have a green thumb flowers, vegetables, and shrubs are a great choice. Why not pick up some lavender at in East Marion and then run around the corner and pick up fresh herbs from Garden Fusion on Rocky Point Road? The is holding a plant sale Wednesday, May 4 through Saturday, May 7 at the school. in Cutchogue has plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, grasses, garden decoration and more from which to choose. in Southold has unique annuals and perennials. After your plants are purchased, spend the afternoon planting them together as a family.

6. Explore with Mom

If you're low on cash and want to spend quality time with that special women, take a walk on any of the North Fork's nature preserves. in Greenport has stunning views and is a great place for bird watchers. in Southold andin Orient are great places for picnics, hikes, and a stroll on the beach. If you want to take a walk back in time, the Lynx, a replica of a War of 1812 privateer, is docked at in Greenport.
