Butta Cakes to Reopen as Lucharitos Taco and Burrito Bar in Greenport

Marc LaMaina ditches cupcakes for burritos at Main Street restaurant.

On Saturday, Greenport businessman Marc LaMaina will reopen his Main Street restaurant, renovated after Hurricane Sandy caused flood damage, to the public.

But don’t bring too much of a sweet tooth — Butta Cakes is no more. After Sandy, LaMaina took the storm as a sign to change things up and will reopen the former cupcake shop and café as a taco and burrito bar called Lucharitos.

“Then menu will be tight but with delicious fresh food,” LaMaina said.

Soups, salads and nachos will fill that small menu with a variety of tacos and burritos. Bottle and tap beer and sangria will also be available as LaMaina works on his liquor license for the new restaurant.

Thursday afternoon, LaMaina, who grew up in Greenport, was busy putting the finishing touches on Lucharitos with his friends. LaMaina left a five-year career in IT at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Manhattan and opened Butta’Cakes — a quirky name he’d dreamt up while working his day job — on May 14, 2009. He will open as Lucharitos Friday night at 6 p.m. to friends and family and to the public on Saturday at 11 a.m. and will have a grand opening on New Year’s Eve.
