Altman's North Fork Home Moves to Love Lane

Sewing supply and needle art shop to take over former pharmacy space in Mattituck.

After a year trying to run a retail business in Cutchogue on Route 25, sewing expert Kate Altman is making the move to a location with more foot traffic — she’s taking over the former space of on Love Lane in Mattituck.

Altman will rename her business Altman’s Needlearts from the current Altman’s North Fork Home. The shop specializes in canvases, embroidery, knitting and sewing supplies. Sewing and needlework classes for children and adults are also offered here.

Altman is a member of a Monday morning business networking group that meets once a month at the One morning, she looked across the street and saw the space for rent and decided to take the plunge.

“I figured — this is something I can’t afford not to afford,” she said. “I’ve been looking for a place on Love Lane for a long time.”

Altman plans to reopen in Mattituck over Labor Day weekend. In the meantime, she is having a moving sale through Aug. 18 at her Cutchogue location next to Touch of Venice.

“We will continue to find and offer the ‘best cards on the North Fork’ (so customers say) and the heavenly pure beeswax candles we’ve become known for,” she wrote in an email.

Needlework classes and workshops will also restart in September. Check out

Nothing like lunch, wine tasting then grabbing a sewing class. Perfect fit.

Just wanted to add that Altman's in Cutchogue was a success! It was a wonderful place to do business, but the shop space was too small for what we wanted to do next: focus on education and community, and expand our offerings of materials (to include yarn and rug-hooking, for instance). The village spirit on Love Lane will be a plus, for sure, but we are moving because business is good!

Thanks Victoria! I predict that you are going to love the gorgeous hand-woven items and hand-knit sweaters and accessories we'll have. It will be easy to offer a nice selection with so many talented people in our midst. Keepin' it local as much as possible.

Thanks for the clarification, Kate. The only reason you and I couldn't get to this tidbit over the phone is because ... you were too busy at the moment! :)

Thanks, Erin!

Hopefully Kate's relocation to Love Lane will keep it North Fork ish instead of Hampton ish which a good section of Love Lane has become. We won't go down without a fight though.
