Aldi Supermarket Coming to Lindenhurst

Published reports indicate discount chain plans to open local store in early 2013.

Attention Lindenhurst shoppers: A new supermarket is coming to the community soon.

According to Newsday, German supermarket chain Aldi is moving forward with plans to a new store in the community next year. Its , however, is not immediately known.

Bruce Persohn, Aldi’s vice president for its South Windsor Division, told Newsday that the company will soon begin development of a Lindenhurst store with plans of an opening date in early 2013.

The supermarket chain currently has stores in and .

Shoppers taking their first trip to Aldi will see a grocery store that's slightly different than the numerous other supermarket chains in the area.

The retailer carries an assortment of about 1,400 frequently purchased grocery items sold under its own brands with products priced upwards of 50 percent less than comparable items found elsewhere, following the opening of its Bay Shore store.

“We work with many leading food suppliers in the United States to provide us products we sell under our exclusive brands,” he said.

According to Aldi’s website, the company backs its private label products with what it says is an exclusive double guarantee. If a shopper isn't satisfied with a product’s quality, then Aldi will replace the item and refund the cost of the product.

Shoppers will also find better-known national brands, as well, but that assortment continually changes. Persohn noted Aldi offers “opportunity buys” in a section near the back of the store that are available to shoppers “while supplies last.”

In addition to carrying a selection of lower-priced, private-label brands, Aldi also works to keep prices low in other ways. The retailer doesn't accept credit cards, and it uses what's known as a cart-deposit system that requires shoppers to insert a quarter in order to obtain a cart.

If they finally used up that empty hulking space and fixed up that parking lot, I know at least one person here who would be happier for it.

Oh, that's depressing. That's borderline Lindenhurst. It'd be nice to take up some bigger spaces that need feeling (i.e., old Chase on Wellwood)

There is a new online discount sweeping the country this holiday season, called Printapons where a local store is featured every day with huge discount.

It's not the same building as the old King Kullen, just in that shopiing center. I was just there today. Looking at the stores, it will be to the left. Entirely new structure.

Sorry, missed you John Lizi. He knows where it is being built, scroll down.
