5 Places to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on the North Fork

Restaurants and pubs feature specials for the day focusing on Mexican heritage and pride.

Cinco de Mayo happy hours are starting up or are about to start up Saturday afternoon on the North Fork and Shelter Island. Here are a few places to offer specials in honor of the Mexican holiday:

Mixologist Kim has been hard at work behind the bar. Ask her for a Fuzzy Worm, a Nazi Taco or a Salty Chihuahua, or one of the bar's rare tequilas. 

This eclectic bar on Route 25 offers $3 margaritas and tequila specials, half-priced nachos and quesadillas, happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. and the Kentucky Derby on TV. Live music from local band Loose Ends begins at 8 p.m.

This longstanding winery will feature Latin music for dancing and white and red sangria to quench the thirst all afternoon. Dancing demonstrations and lessons will also be available.

Popular Santana Tribute band Abraxas will rock the tasting room at this Sound Avenue winery Saturday afternoon.

If you happen to be across the pond on the island this everning, check out a free tasting at this authentic Mexican restaurant in Shelter Island Heights.
