10 Places to Dine on the Day After Christmas

The holidays are the perfect time to take a break and meet friends for lunch or dinner or a leisurely Sunday brunch the day after Christmas.

On Christmas Day, the tree might look great with the presents all opened — but you might also be feeling that Christmas is ... so over.

Once Sunday rolls around, it's time to go out to lunch or dinner and perhaps go bowling and see a movie.  Or go for a nature walk or stroll on the beach. Here's our list of 10 places to go to grab a bite the day after Christmas when everyone who is staying open for the winter is open again.

, 370 Manor Lane, Jamesport, 631-722-0500. The holidays are a great time to go out to a Sunday brunch at the Inn. Out of town guests who have never been here before will love the building and the food. The brunch menu at $25 per person varies from week to week. They start serving at noon.  Expect corn chowder, steak sandwiches, and omelets.

2. The Cooperage Inn, 2218 Sound Avenue, Baiting Hollow, 631-727-8994 is another great spot for brunch. Things start early here. The sumptuous buffet style brunch is served from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and includes breakfast as well a lunch. Expect omelets cooked to order along with scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, hash browns, and bacon and sausage. If you are in lunch mode there is always a pasta dish and a chicken or fish entre on the steam table. Desserts are great too and include your choice of muffins, cakes, cookies, pies, and fruit salad. This is an all you-can-eat buffet for $24.95 for adults and $14.95 for children ages 5 to 10.

, 55500 Route 25, Southold, 631-765-3100 is a family friendly place to go to grab a burger or a sandwich. Sit at the bar and watch a little television while you eat or get a table and hang out for a while with your friends and neighbors. This is a neighborhood restaurant and you will see people you know while you are there. Catch up before 2011 begins.

4. Rhumbline, 34 Front Street,Greenport, 631-477-8840. Head up to the port to check things out and grab a burger or some fish and chips while you are there. Have a beer or a glass of wine, sit at the bar, hang out — it's the holidays. Greenport is a great walking village with more than a dozen art galleries and a lot of great shops.

, Route 25, Greenport, 631-477-2242. Located just west of the this is an ideal place to go on a winter afternoon. Comfort food served in a cozy atmosphere will make everyone happy.

, 13550 Route 25, Mattituck 631-298-4800 is the place to go if you're a foodie. Adam Lovett and Tom Schaudel have outdone themselves on the North Fork with their latest venture that brings the flavor of Tuscany to Mattituck. They open at noon and keep the kitchen going until 11 p.m. These guys want to pull in a late-night bar crowd to keep things interesting this winter. They feature local produce, artisanal cheeses and North Fork wines. Wide selection on the menu is all good.

, 835 1st Street, New Suffolk, 631-734-5123. Leave home and take the game with you at this sports bar by the bay near the boats in New Suffolk. There's a fire going in the huge stone fireplace in the bar, the televisions are on and the food is good. The dining room unlike the bar is subdued and designed for those who want to dine quietly. If you hit the bar, grab a beer and order some fried calamari, a burger or try one of the daily specials.

, 177 Meeting House Creek Road, Aquebogue, 631-722-4220. This is a great place to go for a buffet style brunch served from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Inn is also open for lunch and dinner offering an extensive menu served up with a tranquil water view. You can grab a bite to eat at the bar and look at the boats in dry dock just outside this creek front establish favored by boaters for years.

, 240 Love Lane, Mattituck, 631-298-8989. This casual family friendly bistro with large tables shared by all is great fun for large groups or people who want to meet people. The menu is on a large blackboard on the wall, and changes daily. Old standards include chicken salad sandwiches, burgers and French toast. All served all day. You can get a glass of wine here or great cup of coffee to go with the outstanding desserts at the counter.

, Franklinville Road, Laurel, is a great vest pocket restaurant to have lunch or dinner. They specialize in steaks but the grilled cheese is great for lunch and so are the inexpensive and delicious outsized burgers that they serve for lunch. Try the spicy clam chowder too — great for a cold winter's day.
