WATCH: Harry Potter Fans Flock to Greenport Midnight Movie

The upper level theater of the Greenport Cinema was filled by the time midnight rolled around for a special showing on Friday of the last Harry Potter movie.

Greenport, normally a sleepy little port village after midnight on weekdays, came alive for a while in the early morning hours of Friday with a special midnight showing of " — the last of an intensely popular series of movies that spanned the course of the last decade.

This was the first midnight showing at the Greeport Village Cinemas, according to theater manager John McCabe – and a highly successful one due in part to the fact that Mattituck Cinemas was not showing the midnight movie.

"We're close to capacity," he said, still taking tickets at the door at about 10 minutes to showtime. "A lot of people bought their tickets in advance starting about five days ago."

The crowd gathered inside the theater was enthusiastic despite the late hour. One man from New Jersey said he was visiting family on the North Fork and couldn't pass up the opportunity to see the last installment of one of his favorite series.

"I've read all the books," he said. "Everybody loves Harry Potter."
