Shinn Estate Vineyards To Host Pop-Up Local Art Gallery

Guests can enjoy pairings of wine and art at the exhibits.

"What better pairing for wine is there than art?"

That's the question posed by Shinn Estate Vineyards, which will host a pop-up local art gallery every other Friday beginning July 26, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

According to Julia King, who works with David Page and Barbara Shinn at the Mattituck winery, she was "more than thrilled" when Page asked her to create a large work of art.

Given old pieces of barn board, King said she was asked to inscribe each word of the Shinn Estate philosophy on individual planks.

Next, an idea for hosting future artists was born. “Wouldn’t it be fun if more artists could display their creations at our vineyard tasting room?” she said.

King approached Page with the idea and he agreed immediately.

King, a Southampton native, began contacting local artists for the July 26 show, finding participants at local North Fork coffee shops and other places frequented by artists.

King, who said she loves not only to draw and paint, but to sing and write music, feels the project is an "exciting stepping stone . . . being able to bring together and provide a welcoming environment for those folks who may or may not have a chance to express themselves through art in the public arena."
