International Celebration Brings Families to the Waterfront

Mitchell Park hosted a special family festival celebrating different cultures.

Throughout the summer, North Fork libraries hosted a special reading program called One World, Many Stories, which culminated at Mitchell Park at Thursday evening's International Celebration.

This program encouraged children to read books written by authors from different cultures. Thursday's celebration brought some of those stories to life.

The Hidden City Orchestra served as a backdrop to Poi Dancing (a dance from New Zealand) to kick things off. Children visited different educational displays representing countries from India to Haiti and were treated to food from China, Greece, and Italy. Many hands-on displays allowed visitors to try various musical instruments, grind corn, and even Sumo wrestle.
