Shelter Island Public Library Author Visit & Book Signing Featuring Kate & Jim McMullan, Creators of Many Best-Selling Children’s Picture Books

 On Saturday, July 7 at  12:00 noon the Shelter Island Public Library will feature the creators of the wildly popular children’s books: I’m Bad, I’m Dirty, I‘m Mighty, I Stink and the newest best-selling children’s picture book, I’m Fast!  

After reading, copies of I’m Fast! will be available for sale and autographing.

Kate McMullan is the author of more than one-hundred children’s books. She and her illustrator husband, Jim McMullan, have collaborated on several award-winning picture books, including I STINK!, a garbage truck recites the alphabet, I’M MIGHTY!, travails of a tug boat, I’M DIRTY!, a backhoe-loader cleans up, I’M BAD!, a T.rex loves his mommy, I’M BIG!, a gigantic Sauropod gets lost, and most recently, I’M FAST!, a

cross-country race between a freight train and a little red race car. They are currently working on a book about a fire truck, I’M BRAVE!

For beginning readers, Kate’s hilarious stories about Fluffy, the Classroom Guinea Pig are always in demand, and her One Funny Day from the Pearl & Wagner series was named a 2011 Geisel Honor book.

A former fourth-grade teacher, Kate loves writing chapter books. The Dragon Slayers’ Academy series features Medieval mayhem, terrible knock-knock jokes, and a pig Latin-speaking pig. Her pun-filled SCHOOL: Adventures at Harvey N. Trouble Elementary is illustrated by the famed New Yorker cartoonist, George Booth. Back by popular demand are all eight titles in Kate’s Myth-o-Mania series, the Greek myths as narrated by Hades.

Jim McMullan is an internationally acclaimed artist who has done more than fifty posters for Lincoln Center Theater; Anything Goes, Carousel, Ah! Wilderness, A Delicate Balance, South Pacific among them.  He has also created illustration for every major American magazine including New York magazine for which he did the paintings of the Brooklyn disco which became the visual inspiration for the movie “Saturday Night Fever.”

With his wife Kate, he has created many award-winning children’s books.  In 2010 he illustrated the best-selling Julie Andrews’ Collection of Poems, Songs & Lullabies.
