Top Chef Feted At Jedediah Hawkins Inn Birthday Dinner

Some of the North Fork's finest culinary artists came to honor one of their own.

One of the North Fork's most lauded chefs was celebrated at a surprise birthday dinner recently.

Local chefs and vineyard owners gathered at the Jedediah Hawkins Inn to honor Chef Tom Schaudel's 60th birthday.

The event was orchestrated by Executive Chef Lia Fallon of the Jedediah Hawkins Inn and Waterscrest Vineyard owner Jim Waters.

Approximately 80 guests wore bandanas to imitate Chef Schaudel's signature look; a replica birthday cake by Sweet Karma in East Meadow was featured.

Dishes were provided from some of the area's top chefs, and paired with wines from local vineyards.

The evening, said Chef John Ross of the North Fork Country Club in Cutchogue, was "a fitting tribute to a gifted chef and amazing person."

Chef Schaudel's restaurants include aMano in Mattituck, A Lure in Southhold, Coolfish in Syosset, and Jewel in Melville. Schaudel is also the culinary director of the recently reopened Suffolk Theater in Riverhead.
