Southold Town Animal Shelter: Meet Molly, a Young Kittie Up for Adoption

A loving mom of 25 cats lost her battle with cancer — meet one of her sweet kitties waiting for her new home.

Several hopeful eyes greeted me with a gentle demeanor as I entered the cat room at the in Peconic. I realized the responsibility I'd just taken on — having to help find somebody a new family.

"How am I going to be able to choose only one?" I asked myself at first. "Maybe I'll just take a group shot, and then we can make it, "pets of the week." But alas, I came to my logical senses, and with the help of office manager, Gabby Glantzman, I searched for the first, hopefully , for its photo-op to be the first North Fork Patch "Pet of the Week".

After being greeted by many of the residents with their purrs and gentle persuasion we began our mission. We eventually had to narrow it down to whom would sit still long enough. And then, I turned around and saw a pretty tabby mix, with bright yellow-green eyes, that Gabby explained "seem to be the signature that most of her and her siblings carry." Gabby then introduced her as "Molly".

Molly along with 24 of her brothers and sisters, were brought to the shelter back in December of 2010, when their mother died from cancer. There is no doubt that due to their friendly personalities, that they were well-cared for and cherished. Some brothers and sisters have been adopted, but others are still patiently waiting for their new forever homes.

Molly, 2, was obviously very happy to have visitors.  As she rested in her comfy hammock,  she enjoyed being petted, and would give a soft meow, if you'd stop. At one point Molly even closed her eyes displaying complete contentment. She also gave a faint meow after I stopped taking pictures, as if to say, "thanks."

Molly is spayed. She's  good with other cats and would probably be fine in a home with dogs as well. Stop by the shelter in order to meet this sweet girl for yourself.

By the way, all the animals at the shelter recommend watching the "Puppy Bowl" on Animal Planet at 3 pm on Sunday prior to the big game. While they completely understand the hype of the big game at 6:30 pm, they feel the game with puppies as the players definitely rules when it comes to the cute factor.
