Power Outage Affects Over 2000 Southold Residents

The longest anyone was without power was 29 minutes, LIPA officials said.

The lights went out in the bank on Main Street. Cash registers no longer opened in the deli during the height of lunchtime rush. And traffic lights were out at major intersections. And, perhaps most egregious – the air conditioners stopped working.

A brief power outage hit Southold Thursday, on the hottest day of the heat wave so far.

According to the Long Island Power Authority, 2,161 customers were affected by a power outage that occurred just after 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Of that number, 364 lost power for three minutes, 973 for 10 minutes, and 824 for 29 minutes.

The cause of the outage is still under investigation, LIPA officials said.
