Photos: Stars Cafe Offers a Complimentary Cinco de Mayo Dinner on Shelter Island

Shelter Island café served up authentic Mexican dinner for local clientele to celebrate the holiday on Thursday.

Pepe Martinez and his wife, Lydia, prepared a delicious and authentic spread to celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Stars Café in Shelter Island Heights on Thursday.

Mexican dishes such as hot tamales, steak, onions, rice, tortillas, guacamole, chips and salsa were offered free of charge to show their appreciation — and to introduce some of what will soon be offered for dinner at the café. Traditionally a favorite for breakfast and lunch, now Stars Café will also offer eat-in or take-out dinners.

Many customers brought their own additions to the party, such as eighth-grader Inga Cordts, with her homemade traditional hispanic Alfa Jores shortbread cookies.
