PHOTOS: New Suffolk Fourth of July Parade

New Suffolk celebrated the nation's birthday with a parade, free hotdogs and traditional patriotic tunes.

A muggy July 4th morning didn't deter New Suffolk's traditional parade, which started at Tuttle and New Suffolk Roads at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The event was put on by the New Suffolk Civic Association. During the ceremonies, Jim Baker read the Declaration of Independence, and Kim Norkelun, Postmaster of the New Suffolk Post Office who is retiring, took the stage following a snappy rendition of “Mr. Postman” and was thanked for his many years of service. Gil Goldstein’s band entertained all with patriotic and contemporary songs. Prizes were awarded for best floats, and refreshments included complementary hotdogs, lemonade, and apple and blueberry pie.
