School is almost out and if you’re worried about how you’ll make it through the summer without tearing your hair out; you may want to consider sending the little ones to one of the many area camps on and around the North Fork. Seriously though, summer camp provides a great opportunity to for kids to continue learning, socializing and growing in the off months. Patch has you covered with a list of some of the best.

Why: Peconic Dunes 4-H Camp, sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension, offers both a sleep away and day camp experience for kids between the ages of 6 and 16. The camp’s overnight ECO program is a favorite among kids who want to explore their local environment, introducing campers to the Long Island ecosystem, including Great Pond, Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay, as well as forest and woodland explorations. It is the perfect setting to enjoy the great outdoors.

2. North Fork Summer Camp
Where: On the grounds of Mattituck-Cutchogue-Laurel School site, adjacent to Mattituck Park District ball fields, Laurel.
Why: This full- and half-day camp offers crafts, music, sports and nature explorations, including field trips (for an additional fee). This program is sponsored by the Family Service League of Suffolk County. No transportation or meals provided.

3. Apple Day Camp, at Timothy Hill Children’s Ranch
Where: 298 Middle Rd., Riverhead, NY 11901.
Why: This full- and half-day camp offers horseback riding, archery, drama, arts and crafts for kids between the ages of 3 and 15. Meals and transportation will be provided.

Why: This Shelter Island full- and half-day camp offers kids the opportunity to be outdoors, be active, and learn new skills while meeting new friends, having fun, and spending a whole week with other children their age. Each child is cared for by three to four trained counselors who will act as role models to your camper.

5. Camp DeWolfe
Where: 408 North Side Road, Wading River, NY 11792.
Why: Camp DeWolfe welcomes people of all faiths and cultural backgrounds and its summer camp program includes a variety of programs, such as a traditional children's day camp and an overnight camp for children between the ages of 7 and 13, a "Servants for God" program for children 14 and 15, as well as a “Counselors in Training” program for children between the ages of 16 and 17.
