On The Menu: Shrimp & Lobster Corn Dogs at MAIN

What's your favorite dish on the new menus springing up around town?

Nothing conjures up images of warm summer nights and the magic of brightly colored lights at the carnival better than an all-American corn dog.

But at Main, the new Greenport eatery that's been garnering raves, award-winning chef Keith Luce has taken the treat to a new level -- and his shrimp and lobster corn dogs have diners coming back for more.

The mouthwatering lobster, Luce said, is local.  "I make the shrimp and lobster 'dog', dip it in a corn dog batter, and serve it with a Floridian style mustard sauce used for stone crabs down there."

The dish, Luce said, is a new Interpretation of his shrimp and lobster meatballs from his former restaurant, the Jedediah Hawkins Inn.

After purchasing the North Fork Oyster Company – along with several other properties in Stirling Square – in mid-March, chef Keith Luce and the rest of his management team launched four new locations in the historic heart of Greenport,  known as Main/Meet/Nosh/ and Prep.

The former North Fork Oyster Co., Luce said, was named Main Restaurant & Oyster Bar. The café formerly known as the Sweet Spot is known as Nosh. A previously-vacant space across the way from Nosh, and next to Stirling Yoga, was transformed into Prep. And last but not least, the space on Main Street which briefly housed a skating shop recently opened as Meet.

"This is the only walking village on the North Fork, so once we get the whole square kicking, this is going to be its own little culinary destination," Luce said earlier this year.  "It will be like a little village inside a village."

The North Fork Hospitality Holding LLC – which owns the four properties – is a company led by Luce, his wife Marta, Scott and Veronica Hunzinger, and Jason and Kara Graves; the team's collective experience includes expertise in finance, marketing and business development.

At Prep, Luce installed a full service carry-away production kitchen. On site, flatbreads, gelato, baked goods, and something Luce has been looking forward to making – his cured meats – are made, some sold through a take-away window, others at Nosh, which is a café setting.

Meet is a new tasting room featuring North Fork wines and beers, and retail outlet, for kitchen tools and locally-sourced products.

Luce raised over $51,000 in a Kickstarter campaign earlier this year, though instead of opening the cured meats house on Love Lane, opted to open in Greenport instead.
