On The Menu: BBQ Duck Nachos at Lucharitos

What's your favorite item on the new menus springing up around town?

At Lucharitos, the new taco and burrito bar that owner Marc LaMaina opened this year at the site of the former Butta Cakes on Main Street in Greenport, there's a dish on the menu that has customers clamoring for more.

The BBQ Duck Nachos are a hit, LaMaina said. The nachos feature local duck from Crescent Farms, organic chips, queso, frijoles negro, salsa fresca, shredded cheddar and monterey jack cheeses, jalapenos, sour cream and fresh guacamole, topped with pickled red cabbage.

To wash down the deliciousness, iced teas from "our friends at the Montauk Beverage Company," are a popular choice, LaMaina said.

Integrating local ingredients is key, LaMaina said. "We live in an area where we are blessed to be able to work with locally grown ingredients so we use them as much as we can at Lucharitos. In a time when much of the food on grocers' shelves are genetically modified, I think it's the chefs/owners/growers responsibility to present locally grown products in our places of business as often as the season allows."
