Southampton School District Sets Up Hotline in Light of Locker Room Incident

Following an accusation of misconduct by football players in the locker room at Southampton High School, the school district has set up an anonymous hotline to make complaints.

The hotline has been operational since Nov. 8, according to Amy Pierson, the school district communications specialist. Students or parents can report concerns about "unsafe situations involving our students," according to a statement on the district website. Parents were notified of the hotline's existence.

Southampton High School’s varsity football team forfeited its last game of the season earlier this month because of an incident in the locker room that was reported to police. According to a 27East report, two boys on the team held down a third boy and pretended to perform a sexual act on him after practice on Oct. 30.

Looming Large: Springs Girl's Generosity Turns Bracelet Fad into Charity

Rainbow Loom, colorful rubber bands that make bracelets, necklaces and more, are all the rage with kids. One local sixth-grader is using them to bring a smile to children with cancer, and as it turns out one of those patients is a relative of a teacher in her school.

Springs School student Kailee Brabant, 11, didn't even really know first-grade teacher Jodie Hallman, but the two have become partners in a project and they've gotten the whole school involved.

Over the summer, Kailee was making one bracelet after another when it occurred to her that she really didn't need all of them. "And then it came to me," Kailee said, "I could send them to sick children who maybe are not strong enough to make them." Loom for Love was born.

Family of Cyclist Killed on Sound Avenue Reacts After Driver Arrested Again

A man who police said drove while on methadone with four children in the car, hitting and killing a bicyclist last November, is behind bars again, according to authorities.

William Slatton, 30, was arrested on Nov. 13 at 3:25 p.m. and charged with grand larceny in the first degree, a felony, after allegedly stealing a credit card, according to police records. He is being held in lieu of $15,000 cash bail and $7500 bond. The arrest came two months after Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota — and the victim's family — expressed frustration that initial charges against Middle Island resident Slatton, could be dropped after the tragic incident last November that killed Kane.
