Nearly 1,000 Runners Flock to Mattituck Turkey Trot

Mattituck Teacher's Association drew 951 registered runners Thanksgiving morning.

Before relaxing with friends and family for Thanksgiving, almost 1,000 people decided to run or walk a brisk 5K through the colorful wooded neighborhoods of Mattituck for the Mattituck Teachers Association's fifth-annual Turkey Trot Thursday morning.

Participants varied widely in age and athletic ability. Mattituck High School track and cross country stars lead the race, which started on Maple Avenue near the school and included a trek around Marratooka Pond and a traffic-stopping high-profile jaunt down Route 25. Those looking for a casual 3-mile stroll brought up the rear of the race, which ended back at the high school on Pike Street.

All proceeds from the event went to benefit high school scholarship funds.
