Maritime Fest 2012 to Have More Boats Than Ever

"We'll be more maritime than ever before," said Pat Mundus, chair of the Maritime Festival's boats exhibit.

Another year, another fall, and yet another Maritime Festival in Greenport Village.

But it won't be the same old, same old at this year's Maritime Festival, which kicks off Friday night and will run through Sunday.

Putting more emphasis on "Maritime," organizers have rallied more boats than ever to fill this weekend's celebration of maritime culture.

"We'll be more maritime than ever before," said Pat Mundus, chair of the Maritime Festival's boats exhibit. "Each year, empirically, we try to learn what people like and ask more of. It is, after all, a maritime festival."

Mundus said that between ice boats, classic boats, antiques, and more, there will be close to three dozen boats on display in the water and on land this weekend. Though not positive what the previous high was, she estimated this year's number tops previous totals by at least 10 percent.
