Distress over noise, particularly from helicopters flying to and from , has reached a fever pitch this summer.
over the eastern end of Riverhead and the western end of Southold have made the months of July and August unbearable, some residents say. We know residents on the airport's hotline number and have in recent weeks, but we'd like to hear from you here.
But for those of us who live away from these routes, it can sometimes be difficult to comprehend the volume and the noise level. So, this Labor Day weekend — starting Friday and ending Monday evening — we invite readers who live with the noise to tell us about it.
Leave a comment below logging the time of the noise, the type of aircraft (helicopter, jet, etc.), where you are located and describe the noise. Also please include whether the aircraft is headed to or from the airport. Any additional information available is welcome.
We want to get a sense of what it is like for you during a busy weekend. We ask that you leave one comment per noise complaint and preferably only one person per household leave the comment, though feel free to tell us how many people in your house are impacted by the noise.
