Running Group Heads Up Relay for Hurricane Relief Sunday Morning

With the NYC marathon canceled, local runners organize fundraiser in Peconic.

North Fork residents and active runners Jill Schroeder, Cynthia Cichanowicz and Nicole Wertz Alloway have begun a fundraising campaign for those who have suffered in the wake of Hurricane Sandy with a “Relay for Relief” on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Jean Cochran Park in Peconic.

Suggested donation to participate is $10. The community event will allow participants to walk or run the half-mile mile track at the park as much as they like while helping raise funds for those in need.

Organizers were inspired by a group from Staten Island that are running their own 5K on the island, which was organized in protest to the New York City marathon before it was canceled Saturday morning, to raise disaster relief funds.
