Hometown Spirit Shines At Memorial Day Parade In Greenport

It was a beautiful day for a parade on Monday in Greenport.

Sunshine and hometown pride were in full force on Monday as the Southold Town Memorial Day Parade kicked off in Greenport.

A ceremony of remembrance was held at Veterans Memorial Park, with elected officials including New York State Senator Ken LaValle, Legislator Al Krupski, Southold Town. Supervisor Scott Russell and Greenport Village Mayor David Nyce paying tribute to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

"Today is about paying tribute to real heroes," Russell said.

Krupski spoke of a nephew who just returned from two tours of Afghanistan, and the sacrifices made by our troops.

And Nyce said Greenport and the American Legion Hall had lost many veterans over the past year. "How we carry on is how we show respect for what they have done," he said.
