Greenport LIRR Service Extended Through Thanksgiving Weekend

Good news for Long Island Railroad travelers on the North Fork — service has been extended through the fall season until Thanksgiving weekend.
The increased service, first proposed at a public hearing in August, extends weekend service on the Ronkonkoma branch to and from Greenport for 10 weeks, into November of each year.

Before the new plan, weekend Greenport service ran from Memorial Day weekend through the Columbus Day holiday.

“I am very pleased that the recent decision of the MTA Board included a number of new initiatives and improved service fo Long Island, including the extension of additional service to Greenport," said Mitchell H. Pally, Suffolk County representative to the MTA Board.

“Throughout my career I have fought for Suffolk's East End residents to ensure access to services,” said Senator Kenneth LaValle. “The restoration of service re-establishes access for residents as well as visitors to Suffolk County's scenic East End.”
Train times to the North Fork leave at 10:35 a.m. and 3:37 p.m., with times of 1:11 p.m. and 6:11 p.m. to return.

“The  LIRR understands the importance of access to the East End for its customers,”  said  LIRR President Helena E. Williams. “Fall has become a very popular season on the North Fork. We’re glad we can provide the extra service for our customers."

The extended service will tie-in with the Taste North Fork event to be held in the area on Veterans Day weekend, aimed at boosting tourism during the shoulder season.
