Eastern Long Island Hospital Celebrates Nurses Week

Caring nurses can make all the difference in a hospital stay.

Nurses are an integral part of the hospital experience, offering more than just medical assistance as they extend a helping hand or kind words of compassion to patients facing illness or recovery.

During 2013 National Nurses Week, from May 6 through May 12, Eastern Long Island Hospital honored its dedicated nursing staff with events such as a tea.

“Using their knowledge and unique skill set, nurses at Eastern Long Island Hospital work their hardest to improve patient outcomes with quality care,” Paul J. Connor III, President and CEO, said. “This week we recognize the nursing staff for all that they do around the hospital and nationwide for their high quality patient care and dedication. Their work contributes to our main objective, putting care back in healthcare.”

National Nurses' Week has been in existence sinceMay 6, 1996, ending every year on May 12, Florence Nightingale's birthday.

Nightingale made history and was known for her fierce dedication and innovation.

According to the American Nurses Association, or ANA, nurses have the largest work force in health care, about 3.1 million, and are growing faster than any other.
