5 Things To Do With The Kids Over Christmas Break

Have a fun adventure with the kids over Christmas break.

Santa is a memory and the kids are going stir-crazy and tired of their new toys. Here are some fun ideas on the North Fork and Riverhead to get the kids out of the house during their holiday break from school.

1) Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center:  A Kids' Fingerprinting Event
will be held on Dec. 30 and Jan. 3 from 10 a.m.  to 2 p.m. Free with Aquarium Admission (First come, first served). Parents and children can interact with trained Suffolk County Sheriff's Department deputies to create a take-home fingerprint identification kit. A child's fingerprints will not be shared or entered into any database; however, at a parent's request, the SCSD can send prints directly to Albany to be entered into the Missing or Exploited Children's database. It is recommended that parents store this fingerprint ID card with their family's important documents. It takes just a few moments and children of any age can participate.

2) Snowflake Week: It's Snowflake Week at the Long Island Science Center in downtown Riverhead. Visiting hours have been extended from Friday through New Year's Eve, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

3) Head to Safari Adventure on Pulaski Street in Riverhead for a four-level playground for kids ages one through 10, as well as bouncers and a full set of over 30 video games and skill games to appeal to children of all ages.

4) Take the kids to a movie. "Frozen" and "Walking With Dinosaurs" in 3D are both playing at Mattituck Cinemas.

5) It's "Tots, Toys, & Tales," on New Year's Eve from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library. Children up to age 36 months with caregiver. Registration requested. Enjoy an informal playtime ending with singing and a story.
