10 Places to Worship This Holiday Season

Here are only a few places to celebrate the season spiritually on the North Fork.

With nearly thirty churches of varying denominations dotting the North Fork landscape, there is a house of worship for everyone to celebrate the holidays this Christmas.

This weekend, the North Fork's various churches will open their doors on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for holiday worship. The following is a small sample.

1. , Cutchogue

The Cutchogue Presbyterian Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight service with Christmas carols, featuring Basically Baroque, at 5 p.m. on Friday. They will also holiday a Christmas worship service at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The Cutchogue Presbyterian Church is located at 27150 Route 25 in Cutchogue.

, Greenport

The Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church will hold its annual Christmas pageant on Friday which will coincide with a Christmas Eve Mass. Mass will also be held at 4 p.m. and a Spanish-language Christmas Eve Mass will be held at 8 p.m. A midnight mass will be held on Saturday as well as an 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Christmas Day Mass. The Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church is located at 523 Front Street in Greenport.

, Mattituck

The Church of the Redeemer will hold a family Eucharist on Friday at 4 p.m., featuring carols and a homily for young people. A traditional Christmas festal Eucharist will be held at 9 p.m. and a Christmas Day Eucharist will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The Church of the Redeemer is located at 13225 Sound Avenue, in Mattituck.

4. , Orient

The Orient Congregational Church will hold its annual Christmas Eve pageant and candlelight service on Friday at 4 p.m. On Sunday, the church will hold its "First Sunday after Christmas" service, at 10:30 a.m. The Orient Congregational Church is located at 23045 Route 25 in Orient.

5. , Southold
The First Universalist Church of Southold will hold a candlelight service on Friday at 6 p.m. The First Universalist Church is located at 51900 Route 25 in Southold.

6. , Southold

St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church will hold a family Mass on Friday at 4 p.m. and a traditional Christmas Eve Mass at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the church will hold a Christmas Day Mass at 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., as well as a Folk Mass at 10 a.m. St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church is located at 52125 Route 25, in Southold.

7. , Mattituck

The Advent Lutheran Church will hold a Christmas Eve candlelight communion festival at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, the church will hold a Christmas Day Eucharist, at 10 a.m. The Advent Lutheran Church is located at 200 Legion Avenue, Mattituck.

8. , Greenport

The Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal church, will hold a Candlelight Eucharist of Christmas on Friday at 5 p.m. The Church of the Holy Trinity is located at 768 Main Street in Greenport.

9. , Mattituck


The Mattituck Presbyterian Church will hold Christmas Eve candlelight worship services on Friday, at 4, 7 and 10 p.m. The Mattituck Presbyterian Church is located at 12605 Route 25 in Mattituck.

The Southold United Methodist Church will hold a service of lessons and carols on Friday at 7 p.m. The Southold United Methodist Church is located at 54020 Route 25 in Southold.

even worse?...When I had the publisher of North Fork Magazine contact me regarding the blatantRead More violation, what were his comments?? To add further insult to injury, he said & I quote: "I thought I was doing Greenport a favor...all of the businesses there are suffering...this paper doesn't make any money...sure I have advertisers but they don't pay their invoices...maybe if the cover of the magazine brings business to Greenport, maybe those merchants will pay their bill.."

Of ALL people who should grasp the concept of plagiarism and copyright laws, it should be a newspaper editor/publisher! Cropping out her signature proves they knew full well that they were stealing her work. I'd suggest the artist contact a copyright attorney pronto. I'm always astonished when something like this occurs when a simple phone call to the artist might have been successful in allowing him to use her work WITH her signature intact instead of doing something so underhanded.
