Community Corner

Empty Bowls

The event will take place in the Mattituck High School cafeteria on March 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The premise behind the Empty Bowls' concept is that participants create ceramic bowls; a simple dinner of soup and bread is planned. Guests are asked to donate a suggested minimum donation of $10.

Guests choose a bowl to keep as a reminder of the bowl they have helped to fill.

According to school officials, the Mattituck Junior-Senior High School Art Department has been actively participating in the internationally known Empty Bowls Project.

Students, teachers and community members have been creating ceramic bowls under the direction of Mattituck art teachers. Art Partners will sponsor the soup and bread supper. Proceeds from the Mattituck High School event will benefit Maureen's Haven, a local organization run under the auspices of Peconic Community Council to provide food and shelter at East End houses of worship during the cold winter months.
