We Need More Applied Behavioral Analysis for Autism Cases

The East End needs more autism walks and Applied Behavioral Analysis programs.

Wouldn’t it be great if we had more services on the North and South Fork for autism? Right now there is no Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy provided on both forks for pre-school aged children and up, and the closest is an hour and a half away by bus. We feel very lucky that we are able to put our son into one of the best programs around and know that our town also provides another great program for kids with autism.

One in 110 kids are diagnosed and the numbers are rising. We as a community need to pull together for kids with all disabilities. During the years before my son attended a school program, we had over eight teachers come into our home providing early intervention along with some (ABA).

Needless to say we have been through a lot with our son and, from what I hear, it does get harder as they get older, though I don’t necessarily believe that, as we have started out very early. "Autism Speaks" has walks across Long Island but I have yet to hear of a walk closer to us.

One of the libraries on the North Fork used to provide autism support though I am not sure if they still provide that and how much. My goal is to get more services for both forks of Long Island and though some do not see a need for ABA, I do.
