Sometimes, Time Does Not Heal All Wounds for the Elderly

A passing of a friend and four decades of pain and hurt.

Everyday is a new beginning, but for some the past lingers on. Family is important, but when tragedy happens not all family can stick together. I know many people this has happened to and recently. I had a friend who had passed away. She was in her 80s and for decades had not spoke to a close relative of her's.

My friend never understood why nobody visited her and would constantly talk about her dog. She said I was the only one who had spoken to her and I was like family, though she did have family she never was in contact with them and vice versa.

She loved my kids as if they where her grandchildren, she was widowed and had one child but not even her child would visit her. She had no grandchildren but was always included in our family for holidays.

As a young mother I never really understood what it was like to age, I am 33 but I do have some family who have aged and now am starting to understand it. Really the elderly just want what we all want a person to speak with about there daily routines, care and love from a friend, family member or puppy.

I am glad I was able to be there for my friend and will always remember her through out the years, as I know in my heart time heals all wounds but unfortunately, four decades passed — and my friend's wounds where still there.
