A Structured Enviroment needed for an Autistic Child

Activites for an Autistic Child, Regression during the school breaks, and hope for the future.

Through out the Months we have gotten more help with childcare for our children. What a difference it has made! As I am sure you remember I have two children one being autistic, non-verbal, with mild behaviors.

My son started taking swimming classes months ago, and today he can go under water, use swimming flippers, hold the side and looks like a natural. The instructor we use works with special needs kids and is wounderful. My son can now say a few words, but is still considered non-verbal.

During the Feburay break my son regressed, one week of an unstructured enviroment, though we have structure and care at home, school makes all the difference for an autistic child. The leval of need for my son is high.

So what will March bring as we have yet again another vacation break? though there is a program in Riverhead that helps with school breaks due to my son's elopment issues he can not attend that program and bringing him into public places is quiet the task these days.

Yes he is getting older, getting stronger, weighing more, and some issues need to be handled before he reaches my daughters age. The fear of what it will be like in the future for my son is only starting to set in, as I have been positive for four years now, how much positivity can you have until you relize different?

So as I sit here trying to raise my son, and have relized now what autism is really all about or think I know what it is all about, I embark on a new adventure, a new job for me.
