Autism- Early Intervention- and Medication

Autism is a challenge and once getting a diagnoses decisions are to be made. There was no doubt in my mind early intervention was the way to go for my son at one years old, and Aba therapy was key when he turned two and got the full diagnoses. Maybe in the beginning I didn't take it as hard as others, maybe I didn't take it at all, because I believed there where worse things in the world then autism.

I never believed medicating children was the way to go, I believed as time has progressed more and more people have been put on medication and its not needed. But now I believe in some cases it is. I have seen the impact medication has on other children, and there was no doubt in my mind we should try it for my son.

Its been a few days now and what a difference, no behaviors at all! Behaviors that occurred years ago that have come back are non existent, his speech has actually increased the past few days and he is calm. For a minute there I thought I was losing my son to autism, which I have heard others say, but never believed, possibly Adhd, he was screaming, crying and nobody could console him, or redirect him.

Now he is the opposite, my Primary Care Dr is amazing, he has been through it all with us and where in the process of seeing another Dr. for an evaluation. We really have been through it all, and as two working parents with special needs children, it is not easy but we have made the right choices, we have gotten the help and this time it worked!
