When you have a dysfunctional town hall that allows illegal businesses such as Satur farm operateRead Morewi th no site plan abusing the neighbors in the area for almost 10 years you start to forget why you wanted to live here. Why would Satur Farms want to harm people? Why would they place a large diesel generator 50 feet from homes? Because they are not from here.... they are from the city and came out here with total disregard for human life. People are poisoned almost daily by the generator that runs for hours. The WHO declared that diesel exhaust is toxic and causes cancer but when you are appointed by the governor to be on a counsel you can get away with what you want. They need to restore the panel in Albany to investigate corruption.

Frank, Rose is talking about the cruel indifference to the wildlife we Southold people love. ItRead Moredoe sn't matter what stupid names you call her. The town of Southold will be known forever for their indifference to the beauty of the wildlife that exists right under their noses. The same beauty that tourism depends upon. A few wire fences and a few deer crossing signs would have helped us live in harmony with nature. But instead a few of you decided to kill, kill, kill the beautiful creatures God intended for us to enjoy.

Thanks to the AWI for their attempt to stop this unwarranted mass slaughter of the North Fork'sRead Moredeer . Hoping they can stop, or at least suspend it, quickly. People like Frank T. cannot be allowed to dictate that these animals are subjected to genocide. It will also leave a mark on our town that will last for years. There are other means of controlling and accommodating the deer population.
Reasonability March 18, 2014 at 09:50 PM
Frank T.---Surely you can't believe that there is no relationship between some types of pesticidesRead Morea nd cancer. I guess that means you still go out and spray your yard with DDT every day. It is very difficult to know with certainty the impact of any particular chemical, but any reputable scientist will say that some forms of cancer are increased by exposure to pesticides or other chemicals. The farmers and workers were often the most affected, as you would expect. I personally believe that under some circumstances use of particular pesticides may be worth the risk, but I think an overall effort to reduce the use of pesticides in favor of other methods is something that most of the population, and many farmers, would be in favor of. If you think pesticides and other chemicals have no ability to cause cancer, than please go buy yourself a carton of cigarettes and have a nice tall glass of Scott's weed killer out on your porch.

Culling the herd is healthy for the herd itself, sustains other wildlife, safe guards againstRead Moreerosio n, heals our sick woodland, cuts down on lymes disease, car crashes and allows farms to grow their crops without costly deer fencing. Anyone unaware of the damage deer cause the North Fork don't know what they're looking for or at. I would like to hear from some of those who oppose it as to what ideas would work better. It has never been proven that sterilization works and it is not a viable option.

Benja, thanks for sharing a very balance and appropriate work plan to deal with the Over population Read Moreof deer herd. The only step missing is to work with NYS officials to allow for greater hunting by licensed hunters. As for the White Buffalo group, I do not think a staff of three people would ever be able to trap or catch 3,000 or even 1,000 deer and relocate them. Any mass capture would cause a great deal of trauma on the deer. Very cruel indeed.
Rose Kay February 26, 2014 at 09:02 PM
Benja ,I find it very disturbing the the town claims no involvement in the deer cull plan yet gaveRead More$ 25,000 to the Long Island Farm Bureau and the USDA in taxpayer funds to carry out this massacre. The fact that two board members are also farmers... one who formally served as director &vice president of the Long Island Farm Bureau. Both now sit on the town board. Could this be a conflict of interest where public funds are used ? More questions should be asked before this cull proceeds. It's not too late to stop. Thank you for your efforts on this important issue it was greatly appreciated. Maybe there is still hope for a humane solution.
